Do you have to choose a category that aligns with your major? | No |
Are PowerPoint presentations acceptable? | Yes |
Can you do a performance and a PowerPoint? | Yes |
Can oral presentations include a performance? | No |
Can I bring my own poster previously printed? | Yes. We do not have to print your poster. |
Can you do more than one presentation? | Yes. However, students cannot exceed more than two presentations. Students are given a 1st and 2nd presentation mode option but the final presentation mode will be determined based on logistical capacity. |
What is the maximum number of students that can do a poster presentation? | For projects with a large group, only two students will be allowed to stand in front of poster. |
Do I need to upload my poster before I click “Save and Finalize”? Or can I click “Save and Finalize” now without uploading the poster and come back to upload the poster later? | Poster can be uploaded after "save" or "save and finalize" until March 1st. If you are selected/notified to present a poster the system will be reopened to allow for poster uploads. |
Do I submit my application without the final poster and can come back to upload it when completed? | ONLY posters uploaded by the April 8th deadline will be printed by the Research Day Committee. Poster presenters will have only one complimentary poster printed per uploaded submission. We CAN NOT reprint posters. |
Is it possible to be a presenter and a volunteer? | Yes |
Can outsiders attend Research Day? | Yes |
Does the mentor’s approval of abstract guarantee the student will present? | No. All abstracts will undergo an abstract review process and will be notified. |
Can students perform without doing and/or working on research? | No. There must be an identifiable scholarly activity associated with performances. Spelman College - Home (secure-platform.com) |
Are presenters required to attend the Presenters Orientation Meeting? | Yes. It is mandatory to attend as expectations and logistics will be discussed. |
Is Symposium used before or after Research Day? | Students whose presentations have been accepted can upload information before and after presentations. |
Are students required to record and/or use symposium? | Symposium upload is not mandatory this year, but it is encouraged. |
Will there be bilingual jurors? | Yes |
How are presentations accepted? | Abstract reviewers will use a scoring process based on established criteria. |
Is IRB approval required before an abstract is submitted? | Yes! Research involving human subjects (i.e. interviews, focus groups, survey data) must submit and receive IRB approval from Spelman before beginning data collection and submitting an abstract. |
STUDENT PRESENTATION MODE OPTIONS
FILM | This presentation mode allows students to present research or creative projects through short films. |
EXHIBITS | This presentation mode involves students showcasing their research or creative projects, which may include paintings, sculptures, photography, digital art, and other visual media. |
ORAL PRESENTATIONS | These are traditional presentations where students present their research findings or projects to an audience using slides or other visual aids. |
PERFORMANCES | This category allows students to present research or creative projects through performances, such as musical performances, theatrical acts, dance routines, spoken word, or artistic expressions. |
POSTER PRESENTATIONS *Uploading the abstract is required. However, uploading the entire presentation is not required but encouraged. |
Poster sessions involve displaying a visual representation of the research project on a large poster board including a mixture of text with tables, graphs, and pictures to present your findings in a visually interesting and accessible way |
DEMO | This presentation mode involves students showcasing their research or creative projects resulting from innovation lab or visual arts projects (e.g. paintings, photography, digital art, or other visual media) |
